Crypto CFDs Versus Owning Coins

Buying a coin outright means opening an account with a crypto exchange, moving money in and then deciding where to keep what you bought: on the exchange, or in a wallet whose keys you guard yourself. A crypto CFD skips all of that. You take a position on the price of the coin against the US dollar, and your result is the change in that price multiplied by your position size.

The trade-off is the same as with any CFD: you get the price movement without ownership. You cannot send the coins anywhere or use them on a blockchain, so a CFD is a trading tool rather than a way to hold crypto for the long term.

A Crypto Funded Account at Pivex

Whether you call it a crypto funded account or a bitcoin prop firm account, the idea is the same: you trade under a firm's rules instead of risking a personal balance. At Pivex that account is simulated, runs on real-time prices and is evaluated through the 1-Step Challenge, with the same objectives whether you trade Bitcoin or EUR/USD.

Coins You Can Trade

The Markets list in the platform shows every coin currently available.
SymbolCoinWhat it is known for
BTC/USDBitcoinThe first cryptocurrency and the largest by market value, often treated as the market's benchmark
ETH/USDEthereumThe network behind most smart contracts, tokens and decentralized apps
XRPRipple (XRP)A token built for fast, low-cost payments between institutions
LTCLitecoinOne of the oldest coins, designed as a faster, lighter version of Bitcoin
DOGEDogecoinA coin that started as a joke and now moves strongly on social media sentiment

Bitcoin usually sets the tone for the rest of the market. When it makes a large move, the other coins tend to follow, often by a bigger percentage, so trading several of them in the same direction amplifies one idea rather than spreading it.

What Moves Crypto Prices

  • Liquidity and interest rates: crypto has tended to do better when money is cheap and to struggle when central banks tighten.
  • Fund flows: money moving into or out of listed bitcoin and ether funds can push prices over days and weeks.
  • Policy news: decisions by governments and tax authorities on how crypto is treated can trigger sharp moves.
  • Leverage elsewhere: when many traders on crypto venues use high leverage, a quick move can force positions closed and push the price further.
  • Network events: upgrades, the Bitcoin halving roughly every four years and security incidents can all change sentiment.
  • Risk appetite: at times Bitcoin trades closely with technology stocks and falls when investors pull back from risk.

Seven-Day Trading and Weekend Volatility

Crypto is the only Pivex market that trades seven days a week. Forex closes at Friday 21:00 UTC and reopens at Sunday 21:00 UTC, and stocks and indices follow weekday sessions, so crypto keeps moving while those markets are shut.

Weekends have their own character. Fewer large participants are active, liquidity is thinner and a single big order or news story can move prices further than it would midweek. Some weekends are quiet and others bring sudden swings; either way, the positions you hold keep moving, and so does your account.

Leverage of 1:1 and Why Size Still Matters

Crypto carries leverage of 1:1 at Pivex, so the largest position you can open is roughly equal to your balance: up to about $10,000 of Bitcoin on a $10K account. Low leverage can feel like built-in safety, but crypto swings enough in a day that position size still decides whether a bad day stays small.

Loss from a move against the position. On a $10K account the daily loss limit is $400 and the maximum loss is $600.
Position on a $10K accountMove of 3%Move of 5%Move of 10%
$2,500$75$125$250
$5,000$150$250$500
$10,000$300$500$1,000

A full-size position needs only a 4% move against it to use the entire daily limit, and a 6% move to reach the maximum loss. Bitcoin can move that much in a day, and coins such as DOGE often move more. Sizing from your stop, rather than from what leverage allows, keeps those moves inside your plan.

How the Daily Limit Works on a Seven-Day Market

The daily loss limit is 4%, and it renews every trading day at 00:00 UTC. The reset is fixed in UTC, not in your local time, so depending on where you live it may land in your afternoon, your evening or the middle of your night.

  1. 1Convert 00:00 UTC to your timeKnow exactly when your trading day ends and a new one starts, and remember that daylight saving can shift the local time by an hour.
  2. 2Check in after the resetPositions held across midnight UTC keep moving, so look at the dashboard after the reset to see where you stand on the new trading day.
  3. 3Size weekends like weekdaysSaturday and Sunday are measured just like any other day, so set your weekend position size with the same care.
  4. 4Keep the maximum loss in viewThe daily limit renews; the 6% maximum loss does not. Several difficult days in a row can reach the static floor even if no single day crosses 4%.

On Membership accounts, Daily Loss Protection adds a further step. If an account loses 3% in one day, open positions close and trading on that account pauses until the time shown in your dashboard, once per account.

Overnight Fees and Weekend Holds

Holding crypto positions overnight and over the weekend is allowed. A swap, or overnight financing, applies when a position is held past the daily rollover around 21:00 UTC, and on Match-Trader a triple swap applies on Wednesdays.

Swap rates are shown in each instrument's details in the platform. On a multi-day crypto hold they can add up, so check the rate for your direction and include the expected cost in your plan. Note that the swap rollover around 21:00 UTC and the daily limit reset at 00:00 UTC are two different moments.

Risk Habits for Crypto

  • Trade one crypto idea at a time. BTC, ETH and the other coins are closely linked, so several positions in the same direction behave like one larger bet.
  • Set a stop on every position and size it from the stop distance.
  • Be selective at weekends, when thin liquidity can turn a small order into a sharp move.
  • Keep the consistency rule in mind: your largest trading day needs to stay under 50% of total profit, which one outsized weekend spike can make harder.
  • Close all trades when the account reaches the 10% profit target.
