Daily Loss Protection

A Pause at 3%:
Before the 4% Limit

Daily Loss Protection comes with every Pivex Membership account: if an account loses 3% in one trading day, its open positions close and trading pauses until the dashboard countdown ends.

What Is a Daily Loss Limit

A daily loss limit caps how much an account can lose in one trading day. Prop firms use it so that a single bad session cannot do lasting damage, and traders often call it the daily drawdown. It works alongside a maximum loss, which caps the total an account can lose overall.

Firms measure the daily limit in different ways, for example from the balance or from equity at the start of the day. The idea is the same everywhere: the limit is renewed each trading day, and crossing it ends that account's run.

The Limits on a Pivex Account

On a Pivex account the daily loss limit is 4%, renewed every trading day at 00:00 UTC. The maximum loss is 6% of the starting balance and static, so it does not move as the account grows. If an account crosses a loss limit, open trades close automatically and that account no longer counts toward the Challenge. You can start again with a new account, and on Membership you can activate a saved credit instead of paying again.

Why Traders Reach the Daily Limit

Few accounts reach the daily limit on one planned trade. It usually takes a chain of decisions that each looked reasonable at the time.

  • Revenge trading: opening a new position right after a loss to win the money back.
  • Sizing up after losses, so the next stop costs more than the last one.
  • Moving or removing a stop because the market looks close to turning.
  • Holding several trades that react to the same driver, such as EUR/USD, gold and the NAS100 on a US data day.
  • Trading through a high-impact release at normal size and getting filled far past the stop.

Each of these makes the day's loss grow faster than planned. That kind of day is where Daily Loss Protection steps in.

How Daily Loss Protection Works

Daily Loss Protection is part of every Pivex Membership account. It draws a line at 3%, below the 4% daily loss limit, and acts when an account reaches it.

  1. 1The day's loss reaches 3%The account loses 3% in one trading day, whether on one trade or several.
  2. 2Open positions closeEvery open position on that account closes automatically, at the prices available at that moment.
  3. 3The account shows as pausedTrading on that account pauses, and the dashboard marks it as paused.
  4. 4The dashboard shows where you standYou see today's losses next to the allowed daily loss limit, plus a countdown to when trading resumes.
  5. 5Trading resumesWhen the countdown ends, you can trade on that account again under the usual rules.

A $100K Worked Example

Here is how the levels line up on a $100K Membership account, with amounts shown for the starting balance. The dashboard always shows your live limits.

Amounts shown for the starting balance. The dashboard tracks the live figures.
LevelRuleAt a $100K starting balanceWhat happens

Profit target10%$10,000Close all trades when it is reached

Say three trades go against you in one session and the day's loss reaches $3,000. Daily Loss Protection closes whatever is still open and pauses the account. Without it, the same day could run on toward the $4,000 daily limit, which would end that account's Challenge.

On this account there is $1,000 between the pause and the daily limit. Because positions close at the prices available at that moment, the final loss for the day can differ from exactly $3,000, especially in a fast market.

What Daily Loss Protection Does Not Change

Daily Loss Protection adds a step before the daily limit. It does not replace any of the Challenge rules.

  • The daily loss limit stays at 4%, renewed every trading day at 00:00 UTC.
  • The maximum loss stays at 6% of the starting balance and remains static.
  • In the Challenge the profit target stays at 10%, with at least 5 trading days and no time limit.
  • The consistency rule still applies: your largest trading day stays under 50% of total profit.
  • It applies once per account, so it is not a daily reset.
  • It does not set an exit price. Positions close at the prices available at that moment, so the loss may not stop at exactly 3%.
  • It does not replace a stop loss on each trade or your own plan for the day.

How to Use the Pause Well

A pause is a forced break at the moment most traders need one. What you do with it decides whether the next session repeats the same day.

  1. 1.Step away from the screen first. Some distance makes the review more honest.
  2. 2.Review every trade of the day: why you entered, where the stop was, what size you used and how you felt.
  3. 3.Find the turning point. Most losing days have one trade where the plan stopped and reacting began.
  4. 4.Check the calendar for the next session and note any high-impact releases.
  5. 5.Set your risk per trade and a personal daily stop for the next session before trading resumes.
  6. 6.Do not try to win the day back on another account. Each account has its own limits, and hedging across accounts is not allowed.

Pivex Academy is included with every account and covers risk basics in 18 short lessons with quizzes. A pause is a good moment to go back to it.

Set Your Own Daily Stop Below 3%

Daily Loss Protection works best as a backstop. The main line should be your own: a daily loss at which you stop trading, set before the session starts and kept below 3%.

Take a $100K account at its starting balance. With 0.5% risk per trade and a personal stop at 1.5%, you step away after three losing trades in a row, well before the protection and the limit.

Daily Loss Protection Comes With Membership

Daily Loss Protection is part of every Pivex Membership account, on all four sizes: $10K, $25K, $50K and $100K. Membership renews every 30 days, and every billing cycle adds a new Challenge account.

  • Accounts you have not started yet are saved as credits for 3 months.
  • After crossing a loss limit, you can activate a saved credit instead of paying again.
  • There is no inactivity rule during the Challenge.
  • Billing stops when you pass the Challenge and complete verification.
  • You manage your membership, renewal date and saved accounts from the dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Daily Loss Protection?

It is part of every Pivex Membership account. If an account loses 3% in one trading day, its open positions close and trading on that account pauses.

How long does the pause last?

The dashboard shows a countdown to when trading resumes on that account, so you can see exactly when you can trade again.

Does it change the 4% daily loss limit?

No. The daily loss limit stays at 4%, renewed every trading day at 00:00 UTC, and the maximum loss stays at 6% of the starting balance.

Can Daily Loss Protection act more than once?

No. It applies once per account. After that, the account trades under the usual 4% daily and 6% maximum loss limits.

Will my loss stop at exactly 3%?

Not always. Positions close at the prices available at that moment, so in a fast market the final loss for the day can differ from exactly 3%.

Does a pause end my Challenge?

No. When the countdown ends, trading on that account resumes. An account stops counting toward the Challenge only if it crosses the 4% daily loss limit or the 6% maximum loss.

Which accounts include Daily Loss Protection?

It is part of every Pivex Membership account, on every size from $10K to $100K.

What should I do while trading is paused?

Review the day's trades, find where the plan stopped and set your risk for the next session. Pivex Academy, included with every account, covers risk basics.
